Bring Us to Your Community

The Harwood Institute seeks to forge relationships with individuals and organizations that want to pursue an alternate path in public life and politics. If you are one of those individuals or organizations, contact us.

You may be wrestling with how to authentically engage people when so many have retreated from public life; how to help your community grow and accelerate its progress; or, what it takes for you and others to be trusted and authentic public leaders when people are so deeply skeptical of their leaders. Or, you may want to generate pockets of change, and successfully spread those pockets; or, shift the ingrained negative stories in public life to ones of genuine self-trust and hope.

Whatever the specific challenge, or combination of challenges, we want to work with you.

  • Who we partner with: individuals and organizations, from the single community group, to a collaborative of organizations, to national organizations, to groups that are networks of individuals and organizations.
  • What our partners share in common: the desire for change and the willingness to step forward. We call these change makers, 'public innovators.'
  • What we focus on: The Harwood Institute brings to the table years of experience and knowledge on the sensibilities, practices and tools necessary to understand and address public challenges in a way that creates possibility and hope - and genuine progress (download the pdf file "Our Intellectual Capital").
  • What form the work takes: typically, our work involves a combination of site visits, ongoing support, and creative workspaces where Institute staff and partners team up to apply our sensibilities, practices, and tools to specific situations. We also customize our Harwood Signature Events for communities where such an approach may be especially powerful.
