Dear Friend,
I am writing to
personally invite you and your colleagues to
join me on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. EST for
my first-ever live Web cast, sponsored by
Community Foundations of America and available
exclusively to the staffs of community
foundations.
I will be talking about the
findings in the book I recently wrote called
Hope Unraveled: The People's
Retreat and Our Way Back. I would like
you to join me for a conversation on what the
people’s retreat means for community
foundations and what you can do to fulfill your
organizational mission while also building the
civic capacity of the community you serve.
I’m incredibly excited that my first
Web cast will be with an audience of community
foundation staff and managers. You may know
that for some time, I have been speaking on the
vital role community foundations can play in
creating a more robust public life. Much of our
work at The Harwood Institute has focused on
developing the capacity of community
foundations and a small group of other
“boundary-spanning” organizations into what
we call “catalytic” organizations. Our work
over the last 20 years shows that the capacity
in most of our communities is far too thin, and
that there simply aren’t enough organizations
to cut across sectors and marshal the
collective will to forge an alternate path for
politics and public life.
As you might
recall, this Web cast was originally scheduled
back in December but had to be postponed. I
hope this time works better for you and your
colleagues. Participating in the Web cast is
free; to sign up, click here. Once you’ve
registered, Community Foundations of America
will supply you with the information you need
to watch the Web cast. There will also be a
toll-free number you will call during the Web
cast so we can collectively engage in a
conversation. The presentation will be archived
so that others can access it in the future.
I’d like to thank Carla Dearing and
her staff at the Community Foundations of
America for making this event possible and
would encourage you to go to their Web site at
http://www.cfamerica.org/
and take a look at their terrific resources,
including past Web casts.
I appreciate
you taking time out of your busy schedule to
read this letter and sincerely hope that
you’ll be able to join us on Jan. 24. If you
have any questions, please don’t hesitate to
contact my colleague Mike Wood at mailto:mwood@theharwoodinstitute.orgrg.
Warmest regards,
Rich Harwood
