Interview with The Harwood Institute innovator partner, Tanya Renne
Monday, December 4, 2006
(The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation)Recently The Harwood Institute caught up with
an innovator partner, Tanya Renne co-founder
and CEO of Orchid Suites, who accompanied us to
Airlie Center in Warrenton, Virginia for
strategic planning sessions and talks on the
future of our work. Here is what she had to
say:
How did the time spent at the
Airlie Conference Center help you in your
work?
Well I thought it offered a
lot of clarity in moving forward. I don't think
we are going to start from the same place that
we would have started from had we not met in
Virginia.
How do you see The Harwood
Institute's work contributing to a larger
mission in public innovation and
change?
Its focus on innovators is
the very best way to go about it because you
are focusing on individuals who are doing
direct impact in their communities and their
civic lives and by focusing on that rather than
drawing a wide net for anybody really gives the
organization and the work itself, I think, much
more of a focused approach even in its
technology.
In your experience, how
has The Harwood Institute's partnership helped
you in your work?
I think that
probably from a conceptualization view at the
very least. Essentially to think about things
differently in terms of change and in terms of
questions I ask of leaders. It has helped a lot
actually.
What do you find special
about The Harwood Institute's
work?
The work itself gives me a
centeredness about work for change and a
feeling that it is doable and I don't think I
have ever felt like social change was ever
doable prior to working with The Harwood
Institute.
Thanks for your
time.
My pleasure.
